The Story
On 15th March 44 BC Gaius Julius Caesar was murdered by the senators protecting the Republic. The conspirators assumed that Caesar wanted to crown himself king and felt that the end of the Republic can only be prevented by the death of Caesar.
On 20th March, as a funeral speech, Marcus Antonius read Caesar’s functions and the oath of the senators in which they pledged to protect Caesar’s life. The frenzied crowd amassed a large funeral bonfire, the soldiers threw their weapons into fire, the women threw their jewelry and the children their toys...
The Senate, however, forgave the sinners, while Marcus Antonius abolished the dictatorship, took over the power and quelled the riots. Meanwhile, however, Octavianus as well returned to Rome, and claimed the legacy of Caesar, and Cicero exhorted the people against the new tyrant.
Another civil war seems inevitable. There is only one solution left: collect your legions, gain power and have supervision of the Roman world, maintain the order and save Rome!
Gameplay
The game consists of four rounds.
1. Conscription
In this round, players must answer three quiz questions. On the basis of the correctness and speed of the answers, players will receive the headquarters of a Roman province in a descending order. They collect the legions stationed here and start occupying the territories of Rome.
2. Expansion
Free territories are allotted among players on the basis of guessing questions. The player who gives the correct answer most rapidly or the closest value to the correct answer, can choose the territory.
3. The Battle
This round is divided into five other rounds. In each round, players can choose between the following options:
a. Attacking one of the players
In the case of a correct answer, the territories which can be conquered are the ones of the attacked player. The success of the attack not only depends on the correct answer, but on the difference between the morale levels of the soldiers belonging to the two players. The attack begins with a quiz question, and if both players answer correctly, then a guessing question will decide. The level of the soldier’s morale varies depending on the result of the attack as well. The third player can help one of the two enemies, therefor, this player will lose less and win more.
b. Two-front battle
This attack is only possible if the player is adjacent to the two other players. The attack consists of three guessing-questions which all three players must answer. If the attacker ends up in the first place, then he wins territories from the other players, otherwise, he loses territories, which are divided between the other players.
c. Increasing the morale of the soldiers
With this attack strategy and by answering correctly the quiz question one can increase the morale of the soldiers, which will be important later in the attacks and defenses.

4. The Last Battle
During the last battle, each player can attack only once by answering a quiz question, but the attack will be stronger than ever because the morale of the soldiers will increase significantly. If a player feels that he/she doesn’t want to risk, because in the case of a wrong answer it is possible to lose soldiers, than the player can skip this round.
After the fourth round, the player who has the most soldiers wins the game. If two players finish the game equally, then the morale of the soldiers is the tiebreaker. If the morale of the soldiers is the same, then a guessing question will decide the final ranking. If the second and third place is a tie as well, then the morale of the soldiers is the tiebreaker again, and if this is the same as well, then there will be two runner-ups.
The Territories
The territory of the Roman Empire is divided into 12 provinces and their importance is given by the number of the soldiers stationed there. The most important province is situated in the territory of today’s Egypt and has 27,500 legionnaires. The winner of the first round will be the commander of this territory. The second most important province is situated on the territory of today’s England and has 25,500 soldiers. The commander of the territory is the runner-up of the first round. Thrace is the third most important territory with 23,000 soldiers. Its commander will be the player in the third place of the first round.
The value of the other provinces is between 21,000 and 18,500 soldiers, and the total value of the provinces is of 250,000 legionnaires.
